I have been a Professional Drummer for 25 years and have taught drums for 18 years.
I have played most types of music in my career, and have always tried to be as authentic as possible in my execution of the required style.
This is a concept I have always tried to put across in my teaching, as I feel it is important for my students to understand the origins of these various styles and their impact and influence on contemporary music.
Although this is the general ethos of my approach, lessons typically consist of a mixture of the following subjects:
-
Styles of music
- Time keeping
- Rudiments
- Hand and feet techniques
- Music reading
- Listening skills and understanding the role of a drummer within a band.
- Player analysis.
All these subjects are also directly related to the requirements for Drumming Exams Grades 1 – 8, which can be taken with either ‘Trinity Guildhall’ or ‘Trinity Rock & Pop’.
In addition to teaching privately I also hold teaching posts at various prestigious schools around the Berkshire area:
-
Horris Hill School, Newbury
- Elstree School, Newbury
- Downehouse Girls School, Newbury
- Cheam School, Kingsclere
- Crosfields School, Reading
As required for these schools, I have attended a BSA course in Child Protection, and have a current CRB certificate. |
